Nicole Katherine Mittendorff was found deceased on April 21, 2016, in Shenandoah National Park. She was born in Marquette, MI on November 21, 1984. She proudly announced her Air Force brat status to anyone who asked about her childhood. Nicole attended Tabb High School and graduated from Holland High School. She received her B.S. in Psychology from George Mason University. Nicole married Steven R. Mittendorff on May 26, 2012. After spending some time in IT, Nicole joined Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department as a fire fighter – EMT in 2013. After excelling in medic school she served the community as a fire fighter – paramedic. Nicole fell in love with nearly every furry, four-legged creature that she came across and took as many as possible home with her. In her free time Nicole enjoyed participating in athletic events, such as triathlons, half-marathons, CrossFit and more. She often raised thousands of dollars for charities in the process. Nicole was a beloved family member and brought joy and laughter to every gathering.
Nicole is survived by her husband Steven Mittendorff, her sister Jennifer Clardy Chalmers, her brother-in-law Gage Chalmers, her niece Katherine Chalmers, her step-brother Nathaniel Markson, her father Robert Clardy, her step-mother Elizabeth Bircher, her mother Marde Clardy, her in-laws Martin and Jean Mittendorff, Jennifer and Benjamin Henderson, nephews Michael and Jackson Henderson and her four-legged children Jack the cat, Maggie the Golden Retriever and Ziggy the Pit Bull.
