Chris believed that serving his country admirably as his father did in Vietnam was one of his proudest accomplishments. While serving, Chris received the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (6th Award), Army Achievement Award (4th Award), Army Superior Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Ranger Tab, Senior Parachutist Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and was awarded the Order of Saint Maurice.

Known for his love for his family and friends, Chris would give the shirt off his back to anyone who asked for it. Anytime his family and friends asked for help, Chris would be the first person to volunteer and expect nothing in return. Chris held a special place in his heart for animals, of which he had many. His hobbies included leather work, ferrier work, playing the guitar, welding, fixing anything that was broken, tending his land, and working on and riding his Victory motorcycle. Quite the storyteller, Chris had a knack and love for entertaining his family and friends. His favorite thing to do at family functions was razz his sister-in-law Regina. Chris was rebellious in nature, loved ruffling feathers, was extremely opinionated, and was never one to sugar coat his words. If you were a family member or privileged to be his friend, you knew Chris had a huge heart and truly loved you.

CJ was a family friend for at least twenty years. He was my husbands best friend. I never saw sorrow in my husband like I did when he heard of his best friend taking his own life. My kids, Teresa’s kids, and his kids (Casey, Tina, Cody)… they grew up playing together for a while. Unfortunate events happened that took ALL of their children away from each other. My husband and I remained loyal friends throughout their hardships. When CJ (Chris, Christopher, who ever he was to you) left ALL of us, he didn’t though, did he. He WOULD’NT, would he. My best friend, my “CJ”, would be proud to know that my youngest daughter Shayne (was one yr old) and his stepson Darrell (was six yrs old ) the last time all of our children were playing together at the lake. My daughter and his son Darrell, met as adults at my best friend’s funeral. They got married to each other on October 16th this year. With everything in my heart, I know that he would be just SO proud of that!!! And btw, Shayne was just learning to talk when she said her first cuss word in a sentence. It was actually just one word. CJ wouldn’t quit messing with her. She yelled “Asshole”! My best friend was SO proud! He had that twinkle in his eyes as he LHAO!! I miss the hell out of THAT guy. I love you CJ!
