<\/p>\nMilford, CT \u2013 Bridgeport Police Department (BPD) Sergeant Mark Belinkie died of a suspected suicide at his Milford home on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Local police notified BPD of the 46-year-old sergeant\u2019s death at approximately 8p.m., Bridgeport Police Chief Armando Perez told the Connecticut Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n Milford police are continuing to investigate the suspected suicide.<\/p>\n \u201cWe don\u2019t know the circumstances. We don\u2019t know what happened,\u201d Chief Perez said. \u201cIt can\u2019t get any worse.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI share my deepest condolences with Sergeant Belinkie\u2019s family and with the fellow brothers and sisters of our department,\u201d the chief said in a statement to the Connecticut Post<\/a>. \u201cWe lost a member of our family and everyone is hurting. If any one of our officers is suffering and needs to talk, they are encouraged to speak with our peer counselors who are available.\u201d<\/p>\n Sgt. Belinkie was a 19-year veteran of BPD, having joined the force in 2000.<\/p>\n He served as a detective with the agency, and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2011.<\/p>\n Sgt. Belinkie was assigned to the patrol division at the time of his death.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are all deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Sergeant Mark Belinkie,\u201d Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim said in a statement, according to the Connecticut Post. \u201cAs we grieve, we will continue to have his family, friends and his colleagues of the Bridgeport Police Department in our thoughts and prayers.\u201d<\/p>\n Sgt. Belinkie leaves behind his wife, Gina, as well as his daughters, Ellie and Molly, and his stepchildren, Michael, Erin, and Alissa, according to his obituary<\/a>.<\/p>\n He is also survived by his brothers, in-laws, nieces, nephew, and many friends and extended family members.<\/p>\n \u201c[Sgt. Belinkie] was a very giving man and was the kindest of friends, always smiling and laughing,\u201d his obituary read.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was the perfect husband and loved his family very much. His greatest enjoyment was the time he spent with his wife, daughters and step children,\u201d according to his obituary. \u201cHe was a beautiful man with a beautiful soul who will be missed beyond measure.\u201d<\/p>\n Sgt. Belinkie will be laid to rest in a private ceremony.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n His Obituary reads:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n “Mark David Belinkie, age 46, of Milford, beloved husband of Gina Gaglione Belinkie passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019. Born in Bridgeport on November 28, 1972, he was a son of the late Joseph and Dollette Boreiko Belinkie, He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Quinnipiac University before joining the police force for the City of Bridgeport, where he obtained the rank of sergeant, serving the city for 19 years. Mark was an avid New York Jets and New York Mets fan, was a very giving man and was the kindest of friends, always smiling and laughing. He was the perfect husband and loved his family very much. His greatest enjoyment was the time he spent with his wife, daughters and step children.
