His eight years in the service included one tour in Iraq and two tours in Afghanistan in support of the Global War on Terror. He attained the rank of sergeant.<\/p>\n<p>He had most recently enrolled in the University of Kentucky, where he was a full-time student.<\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by his father, James Patrick \u201cCrazy Horse\u201d Shoffner; one brother, Joseph David \u201cJoe David\u201d Shoffner; his maternal grandfather, David Ball; and his paternal grandparents, Oscar and Priscilla Shoffner.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his wife, Beverly Ann \u201cBev\u201d Gamble Shoffner; one son, Mason Ray Shoffner; one brother, Jonathan Ball; his mother, Gail Ball; his stepmother, Joanie Shoffner; his grandparents, Ray and Margie Miles; and many, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.<\/p>\n<p>Sgt James Dillon Shoffner lost his battle with PTS on October 18, 2014.
