Deputies said they found the body of patrol Sgt. Michael Borland at about 9 a.m. in the parking lot of the St. Petersburg College’s Veterinary Technology Center at 12376 Ulmerton Road. Borland, 44, appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Sheriff’s Office said. He was off-duty at the time and found next to his patrol vehicle. He is survived by his wife, who is also a sergeant at the Sheriff’s Office. He has been with the agency since 1996 and was promoted to sergeant in May.
