August 6, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Sunrise Police Department
celebrates
National Night Out Against Crime
and you’re invited!
Mama Lutz and the Lutz Live To Tell Foundation will be there, too!
National Night Out is an annual celebration to say “goodbye” to crime and drugs in the community. It is traditionally observed on the first Tuesday in August.
When it was first introduced in early 1984, 400 communities in 23 states participated in National Night Out. Now with participation in all 50 states, National Night Out activities have expanded to include block parties, cookouts, parades, visits from police, safety fairs, contests and rallies.
National Night Out provides residents with access to free crime prevention information, products and services – including car clubs, gun locks and child fingerprinting. The evening also offers plenty of entertainment value. Children’s activities will include a Kids’ Clinic sponsored by Home Depot, a bounce house and face painting. The Police Department will present a K-9 demonstration, and McGruff the Crime Dog will make an appearance. Residents can also enjoy free refreshments and live music.
National Night Out is observed each year in communities across the U.S. The event helps raise crime prevention awareness, as well as strengthen relationships between police officers and the neighborhoods they serve. It’s also designed to generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs – and let would-be criminals know that communities are organized and mobilized against crime.
