This report presents data from the United States (U.S.) Armed Forces on the incidence of
suicide and suicide attempts between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015 (CY 2015). The
annual rate of suicide is provided separately for Service members in the Active Component and
those in the Selected Reserve Component of the Ready Reserve (SELRES), subdivided by the
Reserve and National Guard. Data collection and reporting was required for all suicides and
identified suicide attempts that occurred among Service members in the Active Component and
those that occurred among SELRES who were in a duty or training status. These reports
provided additional data on contextual factors and known or suspected determinants of suicide.
This report was completed and submitted for public release on 31 July, 2016
