Army Sergeant First Class Grady Daniel “Chip” Kyle III, born May of 1969, in Memphis, Tennessee. Beloved son of Anne Cullom Kyle and Grady Daniel Kyle, Jr.; beloved brother of Jeffrey “Scott” Kyle.
Chip grew up in Germantown, graduating from Germantown High School in 1988 and the University of Tennessee in 1992.
Following college, Chip served 13 years in the United States Army with multiple deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. During his military service, he earned many honors, including two Bronze Star Medals and the Army Aviation Order of St. Michael Medal.
Many of Chip’s friends have described him best: “Chip was the most brilliant, caring, dedicated, selfless and hardworking human being to ever cross my path. I have never met a man who put so much effort into others.” Another friend said, “I was blessed and honored to have served with Chip twice in my career. Chip was an incredible NCO because he understood soldiers and leading, but more important, coaching, teaching and mentoring. For all of these qualities, he was also funny, compassionate and a humble man, which made him even more special to all who knew him. Our hearts will be a little less full.”
SFC Grady Daniel “Chip” Kyle III lost his battle with PTS, September 8, 2014. He was 45 years old.
