Noah Charles Pierce, 23

Army Specialist Noah Charles Pierce, born December of 1983, in Sacramento, California, beloved son of Tom and Cheryl Harris Softich; beloved brother of Sarah.

Noah grew up in Virginia, Minnesota, and he was a graduate of Eveleth-Gilbert High School. He enlisted in the US Army on June 24, 2002. Noah served two tours of duty in 2003 and 2005 during the war in Iraq.

Noah was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Yorki-Bergman American Legion, Post No. 220 of Mountain Iron.

Noah authored eleven poems chronicling his time spent in the combat zone and his experiences he faced when he returned home from Iraq, three of which were published in a college English book.

SPC Noah C Pierce lost his battle with PTS, July 26, 2007, in Eveleth, Minnesota. He was 23 years old.

      Dear Dale,

      You didn’t call me like you said. So today I was surprised to get your money order. Noah and I thank you very much.

      I cashed it and bought Noah four pairs of pants size 4T, two shirts, socks, and a pair of snow boots. I also bought him a toy rifle for his birthday which will be from you and a “My Pet Monster” for X-mas from you. I almost forgot. He also had McDonald’s for lunch and a bag of snickers. He’s a happy boy! When he unwraps his rifle he’ll flip.

      I guess I’ll come home the first week of January. It’s the least I can do for you. I will need two hundred dollars to do it. Can you help with it? Also, don’t tell my family. We’ll surprise them.

      Tom will drive a UHaul and fly back. After I have the baby he’ll come get it once I’m through breastfeeding. My cookies are burning. Get in touch soon.

    Hi Noah. It’s been 13 years and feels like yesterday. You are loved and missed by so many. Those that knew you and so many that never had that pleasure of knowing you in life. I will see you one day again my son. I love you Noah…love ma
