Travis Selinsky, 26

Army Staff Sergeant Travis Selinsky, 26, of Wailuku, Hawaii, passed away on Feb. 24, 2017. He was born March 16, 1990, in Phoenix to James Selinsky and Jaye Lene Long.

Travis enlisted in the United States Army on May 22, 2008, at the age of 18. In 2008, Staff Sergeant Selinsky attended One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Benning Georgia, where he was awarded the MOS of 11B (Infantry). After completion of OSUT Travis was assigned to Bravo Company, 2-8 Armorer Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood Texas on Sept. 16, 2008, as a rifleman. While assigned at Fort Hood, Travis was deployed to Iraq from Feb. 5, 2009, to Feb. 5, 2010.

After departing Fort Hood 2012, Travis was assigned to Alpha Company, 2-12 Infantry Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado as a fire team leader. During his time in Alpha Company, Travis deployed again this time to Afghanistan from March 12, 2012 to Dec. 11, 2012. Travis was awarded the Purple Heart on April 17, 2012 for wounds received in action on April 3, 2012.

After leaving Fort Carson in 2013, Travis was awarded a secondary MOS of 79R, recruiter and assigned to Maui Center, Honolulu Company, Portland Recruiting Battalion as a recruiting NCO.

Travis is preceded in death by Joseph Selinsky, and J. L. Cornell.

He is survived by his spouse Tiffany Selinsky; mother Jaye Lene Long and stepfather David Long; father James Selinsky and stepmother Chalonne Selinsky, sister Cassandra Bertella; brothers Kyle, Jesse and Brandon Selinsky; grandmothers Mildred Selinsky and Darlene Russell; uncles James and Jeff Cornell and Fred, Mike and Mark Selinsky; niece Sarah Trombetta, and nephew Noah Bertella.
