MINOT, N.D.- North Dakota is moving closer to allowing residents to buy medical marijuana, but before that can happen, local governments need to decide where businesses can operate.

Ward County is looking to update their ordinance to include a “special use” permit for medical marijuana in industrial and large commercial areas.

The County Commissioners have to take 20 days to review the recommendation, but the update will specify zones where marijuana businesses and facilities can operate.

“Essentially, we’re just adding verbiage to the ordinances to clarify where medical marijuana facilities can be located,” said Ward County Planning and Zoning Administrator Nancy Simpson.

If you have questions about where these zones are located around Ward County you can contact Nancy Simpson with Ward County Planning and Zoning.
