James Dillon Shoffner, 27

Marine Sergeant James Dillon Shoffner, of Lexington, Kentucky, beloved husband, father, son, brother, hero and friend.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. His eight years in the service included one tour in Iraq and two tours in Afghanistan in support of the Global War on Terror. He attained the rank of sergeant.

He had most recently enrolled in the University of Kentucky, where he was a full-time student.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Patrick “Crazy Horse” Shoffner; one brother, Joseph David “Joe David” Shoffner; his maternal grandfather, David Ball; and his paternal grandparents, Oscar and Priscilla Shoffner.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Ann “Bev” Gamble Shoffner; one son, Mason Ray Shoffner; one brother, Jonathan Ball; his mother, Gail Ball; his stepmother, Joanie Shoffner; his grandparents, Ray and Margie Miles; and many, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Sgt James Dillon Shoffner lost his battle with PTS on October 18, 2014. He was 27 years old.
