Army Private Joseph Aaron McMath, born April 11, 1984, in Thomasville, Georgia, beloved son David and Linda Copeland McMath.
Joseph was a 2002 graduate of Thomasville High School and was a member of the Thomasville High School band. He was a member of Grace Fellowship Church.
Joseph joined the United States Army where he served two tours to Iraq with Striker Brigade Unit, attaining the rank of private.
His awards and medals include National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Bar (x2), and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
His survivors include sister, Jessica Elizabeth McMath and husband, Caleb; fiancée, Jennifer Slater, maternal grandmother, Marie C. Copeland, paternal grandmother, Carolyn H. McMath, all of Thomasville; uncles and aunts, Charlie and Gale Copeland of Thomasville, Carl E Copeland of Port St. Joe Beach, Fl, Rodney and Tammy Hunter of Thomasville; his niece, Rebecca Ann McMath, several cousins and special family friend, Clyde Broadway.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather Edwin M. Copeland and paternal grandfather, James David McMath.
PVT Joseph Aaron McMath lost his battle with PTS on January 13, 2009. He was 24 years old.
He was an awesome person!! He should still be here but he touched so many people in his short time on earth!! I wish there was more help for PTSD and our Vets!!! Love you so much Joseph and miss you more than words can express
