Ryan Robert Smith, 21

 

US Marine Lance Corporal Ryan Robert Smith, born March of 1993, of Warren, Ohio, beloved son of James J. Smith and Christina M. Menichini; beloved brother of Michael, Brandon, Jeffrey, Sarah and Alyssa; beloved husband of Kimberly Smith.

He was a 2012 graduate of Champion High School and a member of the Champion Presbyterian Church. Ryan was a member of the football and track team in high school, an avid reader, and was very quick witted, with a smile for everyone.

Smith was an infantryman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, NC. He joined the Marine Corps in July 2012 and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from September to December of 2013.

His personal awards include the Combat Action Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Medal, and NATO Medal- ISAF Afghanistan.

He enjoyed spending quality time with his wife and family. He will be dearly missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. His memories will be remembered and cherished by those he leaves behind.

LCpl Ryan Robert Smith lost his battle with PTS, September 4, 2014, in Petersburg, Virginia. He was 21 years old.
